RoadResource.org Helps Pavement Managers Better Understand Preservation Principles

indus is proud to support the recently launched website, RoadResource.org, a comprehensive resource designed to assist and encourage progressive pavement managers at all levels of government. Created as a collaborative effort of the Pavement Preservation & Recycling Alliance (PPRA), RoadResource.org is dedicated to the member credo, “Better roads today. Stronger networks tomorrow.”

The Treatment Toolbox section of this new site provides some simple tools to help select appropriate treatment options based on different pavement criteria the user can select interactively. Or for those more visually inclined, click on a picture of a pavement that most closely matches a road condition and receive a short list of potential treatment solutions. Then visit the Treatment Resource Center of the site to learn everything you need to know about each of these treatment options.

The Network Optimization pages of RoadResource.org were created to share some basic pavement management concepts, all designed to achieve the best overall network pavement condition possible within the available budget constraints. The basic concepts covered are:

• Equivalent Annualized Costs (EAC)
• Remaining Service Life (RSL)
• Cost-Benefit Value (CBV)
• Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA)

RoadResource.org includes interactive calculators to help explain and use of each of these concepts. (The indus team has been sharing these concepts with clients across the northeast in recent years and worked with the PPRA team for several months to curate the “best of the best” in network concepts and applicable tools.)

Additionally, this new site includes an interactive structural calculator to compare the overall pavement section strength of various rehabilitation options, as well as a sustainability calculator to compare both the cost and greenhouse gas emissions of different treatment techniques.
